In recognition of his achievements in humanitarian assistance in conflict zones, President Hideo Ohno* presented a certificate of commendation to Professor Emeritus Motoyuki Sato of Tohoku University (Major: Applied Electromagnetic Wave Engineering, Underground Electromagnetic Measurement). At the ceremony, President Ohno noted that the Advanced Landmine Imaging System (ALIS) developed by Professor Sato is widely used for humanitarian assistance in landmine-affected countries, and that Tohoku University is very proud of this fact. *Positions are as they were at the time of the award ceremony.

The 2nd Three-University Workshop“On Ukraine’s Recovery and Future” was held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Tohoku University Katahira Campus “Hall of Knowledge”.                     Toshiya Ueki, Vice President of Tohoku University and Director of the Center for International Law and Policy, introduced the efforts to clear landmines and unexploded ordnance using ALIS, which is being provided for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
