In recognition of his achievements in humanitarian assistance in conflict zones, President Hideo Ohno* presented a certificate of commendation to Professor Emeritus Motoyuki Sato of Tohoku University (Major: Applied Electromagnetic Wave Engineering, Underground Electromagnetic Measurement). At the ceremony, President Ohno noted that the Advanced Landmine Imaging System (ALIS) developed by Professor Sato is widely used for humanitarian assistance in landmine-affected countries, and that Tohoku University is very proud of this fact. *Positions are as they were at the time of the award ceremony.

Demining is an essential part of Ukraine’s reconstruction. The presentation introduced the local situation and the training for mine clearance. ALIS was introduced at The Workshop Series “On Ukraine’s Recovery and Future”
