2025/7/21 Landmine Clearance Activities in Cambodia

From CMAC Director HengRatana’s Facebook page.
the Kingdom of Cambodia is a member of AP Landmines Ottawa conventions and this Kingdom is one of the most active members of implementing the convention since before and after full flag as the member of the state party since 2000. The Kingdom has reported that 4-6 million anti personnel landmines were used by all fighting factions. So far around 1.2 million landmines were found and destroyed. Most areas cleared were located in side the country to serve human security and social economic development activities. All kind of landmines and unexploded ordinances as the remnants of war found and destroyed were over 4.46 millions.
As my earlier statement about the responsibility of the state party under article 5 of the convention as follows:
- Each State Party undertakes to destroy or ensure the destruction of all anti-personnel mines in mined areas under its jurisdiction or control, as soon as possible but not later than ten years after the entry into force of this Convention for that State Party.
- Each State Party shall make every effort to identify all areas under its jurisdiction or control in which anti-personnel mines are known or suspected to be emplaced and shall ensure as soon as possible that all anti-personnel mines in mined areas under its jurisdiction or control are perimeter-marked, monitored and protected by fencingor other means, to ensure the effective exclusion of civilians, until all anti-personnel
mines contained therein have been destroyed..
